New Hampton, Iowa

After last weekend in Rockwell, Iowa, the Koester Racing Team traveled to the second Grand National event for the Mini class in Iowa, this time at the Kenwood Avenue Nationals in New Hampton.  The event over the last several years has been one of the faster growing contests on the schedule with the NTPA, so we were excited to not only get after it but to also catch up with some of our fans.

Friday evening Adam drew the option with his Shell Rotella T6 sponsored Beast of Burden.  The pass of 321.550 was something Adam was pleased with as he rolled off the track.  The NTPA has allowed the class this year to float some of the finishes and that was the chosen format for Friday nights contest and with the option pass Adam finished solidly in fourth.  Larry hooked in the middle of the class with his Shell Rotella T Footloose entry and ultimately finished up just one spot behind his son.  The fourth and fifth place finishes gave the Koester Racing guys confidence as they made their way in to Saturday evening for sessions number 2.

With knowledge of the track conditions and a full game plan of how to attack the setup, Adam Koester hit the track with his Beast of Burden with the sixth hook of the class.  Making a very strong pass at a distance of 313.155, Adam claimed the lead and focused his attention on preparing his dad’s

tractor before his late hook.  Larry came to the line with the fourteenth spot in the lineup and sailed right on by his son in to the lead by seven feet.  The distance of 320.640 was good enough to claim the top position in the class and secure a sweep of first and second for Koester Racing.  The win was the second on the 2015 Grand National circuit for Larry after he took top honors in Benson, North Carolina.

From Iowa, we will load up and head to Chapel Hill, Tennessee, for our one of our favorite events annually, the Chapel Hill Lions Super Pull of the South!
